Neithhotep has already been tentatively identified as the wife of Narmer
and mother of Aha. An alternative interpretation of the evidence, that
Neithhotep was the wife of Aha and regent for his successor Djer, is less
convincing as the lady Benerib, whose name appears alongside Aha's on
several occasions, has been cautiously identified as his consort. Benerib
was not, however, Djer's mother. That honour goes to an otherwise
unknown lady, Khenthap, whose name is recorded on the Old Kingdom
Cairo Annals Stone. On the assumption that a king is more likely than
not to be the son of the previous king, she too can be claimed as a wife of
Aha.
